Peace - A Slice of Heaven

A very dear friend told me today that he was uneasy with a slight anxiety and that he was having a hard time being at peace. So what is peace? Jesus tells us in the Gospel of John that He leaves us His peace, not the peace of the world. So we need to understand that the peace that comes from God is not what the world defines as peace. The world will tell you in order to have peace, you have to have a certain amount of money, security, things, happiness, satisfaction, etc. However, the peace from God surpasses our understanding and goes beyond our earthly circumstances. So how do we get this peace from God? First, we must be born again. When we are born again, which the Greek words that Jesus spoke on this actually mean, born from above, we are given the presence of the Holy Spirit. Paul tells us in the book of Galatians that one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is peace. Paul tells us that we need to walk by the Spirit (Holy Spirit) in order to experience the fruit of the Spirit. Paul tells us also in Ephesians that we need to be filled with Spirit. He is telling this to born again believers (Christians). Now why would a Christian need to be filled with the Holy Spirit when they already have the Holy Spirit present in their lives? It is because we must allow the Holy Spirit to have control of our lives, walk by the Holy Spirit, and that is when you will experience peace. Even a Christian can be walking by their flesh, sinning, and diminishing the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. This is how a Christian experiences stress, anxiety, worry, doubt, etc. So we need to embrace the work of the Holy Spirit, walking by His guidance, and submit to His leading. And then as we lay aside sins we begin to experience the peace of God in our lives. Also, understand that Jesus is according to the Bible the Prince of Peace. Peace from God cannot be experienced outside of a intimate relationship with Jesus. Jesus said, "I am the true bread that came out of heaven." To walk with the Holy Spirit is to pursue an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. He is LIFE. He said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no comes to the Father but through me." To live with peace, regardless of your circumstances, is to commune with Christ. To partake of Him on a daily basis. True communion is consuming the Bread of Life on a daily basis. Jesus is the word of God. As John has said that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. So peace comes from communing with Christ. This communion can be had through reading and meditating on His word, the Bible, daily. So to make it practical, slow down, ask God to show you if there are any sins that you need to confess to Him, ask Him to fill you with the Holy Spirit, spend time in prayer and in the word daily, praise and worship Him, be thankful always for how He has blessed you and love Him and others. With these practical steps, you will begin to experience the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. God Bless, William
